The BSM 3S series tractor subsoiler is designed for agricultural tractors from 25HP to 90HP. It is mainly used for deep soil loosening, breaking compacted layers, improving water infiltration, conserving soil moisture and preparing fields for crop production.
The machine is suitable for potato, beans, cotton, corn and other field crops. By loosening the soil below the surface layer, the 3S subsoiler helps improve root development, soil aeration and underground water movement without completely turning the soil.
Five models are available: 3S-1.0, 3S-1.4, 3S-1.8, 3S-2.1 and 3S-2.6. The working width ranges from 1000mm to 2600mm, while the number of shanks ranges from 5 to 13.
- Breaking compacted soil layers
- Deep loosening without full soil inversion
- Improving soil aeration and drainage
- Increasing water infiltration
- Conserving underground soil moisture
- Preparing fields for potato, beans, cotton and corn
- Reducing surface compaction caused by repeated tractor traffic
During operation, the strong shanks penetrate the soil and loosen compacted layers below the surface. Unlike a mouldboard plough, the subsoiler does not completely turn the soil. Instead, it creates cracks and channels that improve air movement, root penetration and water infiltration.
The working depth can be adjusted according to soil conditions, crop requirements and tractor power. Stable operating speed and correct three-point hitch adjustment are important for achieving a uniform working depth.
- Deep soil loosening: The 3S series helps break compacted layers and improve soil structure.
- Five model options: Models cover working widths from 1000mm to 2600mm.
- 5-13 shanks: Different shank quantities are available for different tractor power ranges.
- Three-point mounted linkage: The machine connects directly to compatible agricultural tractors.
- Working depth up to 240mm: Suitable for loosening cultivated fields and compacted surface layers.
- Strong steel frame: Designed to withstand continuous deep tillage work.
- Moisture conservation: Subsoiling helps improve water penetration and reduce surface runoff.
- OEM service: BSM can provide customized color, logo and model configuration.
| Model | Working Width | Number of Shanks | Working Depth | Matched Power | Weight | Linkage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3S-1.0 | 1000mm | 5 | 100-240mm | 25-30HP | 240kg | Three-Point Mounted |
| 3S-1.4 | 1400mm | 7 | 100-240mm | 30-40HP | 280kg | Three-Point Mounted |
| 3S-1.8 | 1800mm | 9 | 100-240mm | 50-60HP | 320kg | Three-Point Mounted |
| 3S-2.1 | 2100mm | 11 | 100-240mm | 70-80HP | 370kg | Three-Point Mounted |
| 3S-2.6 | 2600mm | 13 | 100-240mm | 80-90HP | 450kg | Three-Point Mounted |
| Model | Recommended Tractor | Recommended Application |
|---|---|---|
| 3S-1.0 | 25-30HP Tractor | Small farms and narrow field sections |
| 3S-1.4 | 30-40HP Tractor | Small and medium farms |
| 3S-1.8 | 50-60HP Tractor | Medium-width deep tillage work |
| 3S-2.1 | 70-80HP Tractor | Large fields and wider soil loosening |
| 3S-2.6 | 80-90HP Tractor | High-efficiency work on larger farms |
The subsoiler helps break compacted layers caused by repeated machinery traffic, rainfall and long-term shallow tillage.
Deep loosening improves water infiltration and helps the soil retain moisture below the surface.
The machine can be used before planting or after harvest to improve soil structure and prepare the field for the next crop.
The shanks can work through moderate surface residue while loosening the soil below.
- Potato
- Beans
- Cotton
- Corn
- Wheat
- Other field crops requiring improved root depth
Tractor selection should consider engine power, tractor weight, traction force, rear lifting capacity, tire grip, soil hardness and required working depth.
A tractor with insufficient weight or traction may experience wheel slip in hard soil. For deeper operation, reduce the number of working shanks, lower the operating speed or select a higher-power tractor.
The rear hydraulic lifting system must be able to safely lift the machine weight. Adequate front counterweights may be required to maintain steering stability.
- Inspect the shanks and bolts before operation
- Adjust the working depth gradually
- Reduce speed in hard or stony soil
- Avoid sudden turning while the shanks are in the ground
- Lift the implement before reversing
- Check the three-point linkage regularly
- Replace worn shank points when necessary
Subsoiling loosens compacted soil below the surface without completely turning the soil. It is used to improve root penetration, drainage and moisture movement.
Mouldboard ploughing cuts and turns the soil, burying crop residue and weeds. It provides more complete soil inversion but usually requires greater traction and creates more surface disturbance.
Disc ploughs use rotating discs to cut and turn soil. They are suitable for dry, hard or residue-covered fields.

The 3S series is designed for tractors from approximately 25HP to 90HP. The exact model depends on required working width, soil hardness and working depth.
The catalogue working depth is approximately 100-240mm. Actual depth depends on soil conditions, tractor traction and machine adjustment.
Yes. The machine is designed to loosen compacted layers and improve root and water movement. For very deep hardpan, a heavier deep subsoiler model may be required.
A suitable 50HP tractor can normally use the 3S-1.8 model, subject to tractor weight, traction force and soil conditions.
No. The subsoiler mainly loosens and cracks the soil. It does not completely invert the soil like a mouldboard plough.
Yes. BSM can recommend a tractor and subsoiler combination according to the required working width, soil type, working depth, farm area and destination country.
For inter-row cultivation, weeding and ridging after crop emergence, customers can also choose the BSM 3Z row crop cultivator.
For complete soil inversion and residue burial before planting, customers can select the BSM 1LF hydraulic reversible mouldboard plough.
For dry, hard or residue-covered farmland, the BSM hydraulic reversible disc plough is also available.
